Peer Mentor Role

Role description

Forward Steps at Building Blocks are looking to recruit enthusiastic people to become Peer Mentors in an exciting project providing support to families who have children with disabilities.

They may be experiencing difficulties, be vulnerable or need support to improve their confidence. Your role will be to provide a listening ear; befriend, be a positive role model and offer support and encouragement, so families and their children can reach their full potential.

Your role will be to help families solve their own problems recognising that it is key, to remain impartial and not to influence. Your aim as a mentor is to encourage, be a good listener and support families to make realistic plans in achieving their goals.

The role may have challenges but having the ability to remain positive and to be innovative in your approaches will be important.
